Demolition on Solberg Annex began last week to make way for the new SDSU Architecture, Mathematics and Engineering Building. As part of achieving LEED Silver Certification, project requirements call for end of project salvage/recycle rate of 75 percent or greater. The stacked sandstone has been salvaged, cleaned and stockpiled for re-use on the new facility. Additional re-use items may include selective red and tan brick, lighting fixtures and electrical devices. Other materials removed from the project such as masonry, concrete, wood, gypsum board, piping and etc. will be transported to a nearby recycling center for processing and future re-use. Also, construction waste will be collected and processed to meet project goals.
