New Avera Medical Group Clinic Under Construction

Avera Health is moving forward with a three-story clinic next to Hy-Vee near 26th Street and Marion Road. The 85,000-square-foot building will mirror the health system’s clinic at 69th Street and Cliff Avenue but be slightly bigger.

It will include primary care, internal medicine, obstetrics, pediatrics, urgent care, a laboratory and services such as radiology. Avera Medical Group will also include the state’s first free-standing emergency department as part of its new westside clinic.

“The clinic will help relieve some of the congestion off the main campus like 69th and Cliff did,” said Lindsey Meyers, vice president of communications. “That has worked really nice. There’s so many new houses going up and young families, and this way we’re able to offer a broad range of services over there.”

Recent data also revealed 45,000 people living west of Interstate 29 were without close access to an emergency department. While the emergency department is contiguous with the rest of the clinic, independent stand-alone emergency rooms are becoming more prevalent across the country. “Less than 30 percent of patients who go to an emergency room get admitted to the hospital,” Dr. David Kapaska, President/CEO said. “Most actually go home.”

A groundbreaking occurred in September 2015 with a 2016 opening.
