Milbank Area Hospital Avera and Avera Medical Group Milbank showcased its state-of-the-art healthcare campus during an open house and ribbon cutting on Tuesday, November 22. The program was guided by Northeast South Dakota Healthcare Foundation board chairman, Jim Gesswein. He thanked the generous donors who made the new facility a reality and stressed the importance of the community for the project’s success. Gesswein said, “We built this facility as a community and this community should be very proud.”
The new 76,700 gsf replacement hospital and clinic facility was constructed on a 17-acre site. Project goals included expanded and improved inpatient and outpatient services. Additional objectives focused on increased staff efficiency, use of current technology, and redefining the overall patient care environment to be safe, healing-focused, patient-friendly, and with easy way-finding.
Finally, community involvement was critical. Therefore, the planning team facilitated public focus groups, private sector donations, and City of Milbank infrastructure expansion assistance. The new facility represents the community in it services and faith-based care delivery.
The campus will open for service on Wednesday, December 14.
